Here are some steps for what you should do before you reach us when faced with common dental emergencies:
Knocked-Out Tooth
First, rinse the tooth gently with water; be sure not to pull off any pieces of tissue! If you can, place it back in its socket until you can reach our office. If this simply isn’t possible, placing it in a cup or plastic bag of milk is a viable alternative. Be sure to bring it with you! Once you’re here, we can determine whether reattachment is a viable option.
Broken Tooth
Rinse your tooth with warm water and then hold a cold compress against it. This should help reduce the swelling while you travel to our office.
Bad Toothache
Rinse your mouth as exhaustively as possible and floss all around the tooth that’s in pain; this could help dislodge any debris that may be causing the problem. If the feeling isn’t relieved, call our office.
Losing a Temporary Crown
Did you lose it? If not, dry your tooth, apply a small amount of toothpaste to the crown, and place it back in its original spot. Then, call our office so that we can schedule a time for you to come in; then, we can reattach it more effectively.
