Emergency Care: Helping Your Teeth Out Of a Jam in Oklahoma City and Beyond
December 31, 2012
As we enter the new year, it’s important to remember that life can be unpredictable, and that sometimes, emergencies happen that need to be rectified quickly and effectively. Here at his Oklahoma city office, Dr. Joe Isaacson is committed to providing his patients excellent care, even in the most stressful or inconvenient times. Our team will do our very best to see emergency cases as soon as possible, whether you’ve knocked out a tooth or simply have a very bad toothache. In addition, there are steps you can take that will improve your condition until you can get to the office. Here are some situations you may encounter:
I knocked my tooth out
Rinse the tooth gently under water. Then, place it in the socket it fell from and hold it in place until you can get to the office. If this isn’t possible, place it in a plastic baggie of milk and bring it in, where we’ll determine whether reattachment is a viable option.
My temporary crown fell out
If you haven’t lost it, then dry your natural tooth, apply a small amount of toothpaste to the crown, and reattach it. Please call our office so that we can reattach it more effectively as soon as possible.
I broke my tooth
Rinse the tooth with warm water immediately then hold a cold compress against it. This should reduce the swelling until you can get to the office.
I have a really bad toothache
Rinse your mouth as exhaustively as possible, then floss around the tooth to make sure that debris aren’t causing the problem. If pain persists, call our office at once.
