Cosmetic Dentistry: The FAQ
Maybe you are interested in cosmetic dentistry, but you have a few questions that are holding you back. Despite its rising popularity, there are still many people who don’t know too much about how dentistry can improve the appearance of healthy but cosmetically flawed teeth. To help, we have put together what we hope is a thorough FAQ about cosmetic dentistry. Still have questions after reading it? Please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss your options in more depth.
How can I straighten my teeth?
One of the most popular options available in cosmetic dentistry is with orthodontics. If you have gapped, crowded, or otherwise misaligned teeth, Dr. Isaacson can help with Invisalign. This option uses clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment. Invisalign trays are made out of heavy-duty plastic that is practically invisible -- so while your close friends and family may know you are undergoing orthodontic treatment, others may be none the wiser. The average Invisalign treatment lasts from 12 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of your case.
What teeth whitening options do you offer?
Teeth whitening is a wonderful way to quickly improve the appearance of the teeth that show when you smile. Using a high powered gel and a customized approach, Dr. Isaacson can brighten your teeth by up to eight shades in a single visit to our office.
We offer two options in teeth whitening: in-office with Zoom! Whitening and a take-home kit that is completed over the course of about two weeks. This way, you can whiten your teeth at the pace that you are most comfortable with.
What can I do about my small teeth?
A beautiful smile is all about proportions -- and if your teeth look too small in comparison to your gum tissue or the rest of your smile, then Dr. Isaacson can help. Lumineers are wafer-thin coverings that are bonded onto the front side of the teeth that show when you smile. Here, they can improve the size, shape, and color of your tooth enamel. Lumineers are completed in one to two visits to our office and can last for many years with proper maintenance.
Another option is with cosmetic bonding. This treatment allows your dentist to add to missing or damaged tooth enamel without having to take away from or cover up what is there. Cosmetic bonding also offers a more affordable alternative compared to Lumineers.
What if I have a gummy smile?
Speaking of proportions, people who have too much gum tissue or an uneven gum line may need to have laser gum recontouring performed. With the precision of a laser, Dr. Isaacson can easily zap away at the excess or uneven tissue to help you smile with full confidence at every opportunity. Stitches and sutures are not required with this method, and the recovery is typically quick. Most patients can go right back to work after having it performed.
